A recent poll shows that 7% of Cambodians have had someone try to steal some or part of their land during the last three years.
No, not the stealing of televisions, motorbikes and mobile phones: land
That's a whopping 500,000 Cambodians who believe someone has either attempted to, or has been successful at, flogging their land.
Sure, some of this number may have never really owned the land in the first place; they believe they do because they have been squatting there for years.
But many thousands of others have had to fight off corrupt officials and businessmen backed by equally corrupt coppers to retain what is theirs.
That's a lot of Cambodians holding grudges. Their numbers are ever-increasing.
