Pchum means gathering.
Ben, a Pali word, means ball of rice (or meat).
Therefore, the word Pchum Benh means gathering or meeting of rice balls.
During Pchum Benh Cambodian people make offerings of rice balls and other foods to dead relatives and ancestors who may not have gained a release from hell and been reborn.
And during Pchum Benh merit is gained by giving to the handicapped...
...and the poor
and by giving food and clothing to the monks...
Blessings are given and received...
Wats dispense food to the poor...
Little hands at work.
Curious.
