We soon saw that our gate had been padlocked from the outside. We were unable to get out.
We assumed the landlord thought we hadn't locked our gate the night before and had secured us in. However, upon waking him he was as surprised as we were.
He promptly broke the padlock with a crowbar and set us free. A disturbing early morning wake-up. We still don't know why this was done, but the landlord says it has been a common occurrence down our street in the past.
