Cambodian Cellphone Charges Climb

Usually governments are pushing business to bring down their prices. That's not always so though; at least not here in Cambodia.

Recently mobile phone companies in Cambodia were told to increase their rate-per-minute charges- or else. This message came right from the top- P.M. Hun Sen, delivered the ultimatum. At first the message was ignored but later, a more stern message brought the desired result and prices rose across the board.

A senior member of the Cambodian government obviously has a large stake in one of the many cell phone companies and is feeling the heat of the intense competition. I wonder who that would be? Kind of easy to be profitable when the government is so far on your side, though.
