From the Darkness into the Light

Kidnapped at 13 years of age and sold into a Cambodian brothel  where she was beaten, tortured, and raped  up to 30 times per day, Sina Vann is this years winner of  the Frederick Douglass Prize at the 2009 Freedom Awards.

Sina was tortured in this now-abandoned dungeon.

Candidates for the Douglass Award are those who have previously been enslaved but are now helping other victims attempt to get on with their lives.

Sadly when Sina Vann was rescued by anti-slavery activist Somaly Mam she wasn't sure what to think; she had been rescued before but corrupt Cambodian policemen took her back to her prison-brothel.

  3. Hi Deborah,

No I haven't had the chance to meet Sina.

She was originally from Vietnam, kidnapped and transported to Cambodia to work as a sex slave.

She now resides in the United States.
