And while this figure is disputed- Cambodian bankers claim
the figure is now more than 10%- even that number pales in comparison to other
Southeast Asian nations.
Singapore heads the list with 98.2% of its citizens having a
bank account; Thailand sits on 72.7%; Laos 26.8%; and Indonesia 19.6%.
The World Bank also claims that less than 1% of Cambodians actively use a bank account for the purpose of saving money.
