Socheata lived half her life in an institution. Money was tight there so they lived frugally; and while the food was adequate it was basic.
So, although she has been away from the orphanage for more than a year, when Socheata cooks here, which is every Saturday evening, her lessons of thrift are not forgotten.
No bad thing I suppose.
But when she goes out shopping and comes back with weed-like greens and gristly meat of dubious quality, which is often, you know that dinner will be far from delicious. And a fondness for MSG doesn't help, either.
