A Step Back in Time (8) 1959- Winnowing Rice
The Southeast Asia Digital Library holds a fascinating collection of photographs from the region. In this photo from 1959 Yeii Nehm can be seen winnowing rice.
Winnowing is the process of removing the chaff from the grains. The simple winnowing method above uses the breeze to blow away the lighter chaff.
