Here's what one student of mine-apparently happy to see his cheating revealed on the internet- wrote in a recent blog entry:
'I'm a student who was bad at chemistry subject the most and that's why I didn't do anything for chemistry exam but when there was 15 minutes before the end of the exam, I was cheating to my classmates and at the end, the exam was done by my cheating.( lol)
And many times it's condoned by the teachers, too.
''...the literature teacher didn't let us cheating like another teacher had done....'
Philip, sad, but as you would know Cambodia is not alone. Pushing students through grade, after grade, also, only does injustice to the child in the long term. I wonder if 'cheating' has the same stigma attached, as it does in other societies. It wouldn't appear so if this student is any indication.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you back!
Thanks, Snap.
ReplyDeleteYou are right- the stigma is in any sort of failure. Many (most?) families and teachers would rather know that their children cheated but passed, than face failure.
