Every major Thai supermarket has a dazzling display of dried fruit. Oranges, dates, kiwifruit, plums, dates, bananas and berries; it makes for a lip-smacking display.
Invariably the section is staffed by Muslim women, who, presumably, operate under licence and pay rent to the supermarket. Why they are all Muslim I have no idea; especially as they form only a tiny part of Bangkok's population. In fact Muslims only form a significant part of the Thai population in the country's deep-south.
But whatever the reason, who cares? The fruit is delicious!
I love dried fruit. Always bring back at least a kilo of dried fruit each time I come back from Thailand. I love the Kiwi dried fruit.
